The Inca Trail Peru is the only hiking route that reaches Machu Picchu through the Inti Punku, the Sun Gate, the same entrance that the Incas used centuries ago. This is what makes it different from any other hike in the region: the section is done on foot, walking along old stone paths and you reach the inca citadel from the high part. The route also goes through some of the archaeological sites like Winay Wayna and Sayacmarca , which can only be reached through this path. Because of this mix of factors (you can get to Machu Picchu on foot, the ruins along the way are well-kept and the historic route is well-established), the Inca Trail is considered the classic and popular choice to get to Machu Picchu.
