The Machu Picchu city (Quechua voice, old mountain) is today universally known, both for its imposing and original ruins, as for its incomparable situation on the edge of an abyss, in whose bottom run the stormy waters of the Urubamba River.

Even today, it is a mystery how the builders managed to take immense blocks of stone to the top of the mountain and build such a beautiful city.

Probably built in the fifteenth century, in the greatest topographical difficulty, rustic and inaccessible. It is the greatest Inca work, of intrepidity and intelligence. Of military religious origin; it has an area of 13 km². The citadel was surrounded by a great wall 6 m high and 1.8 m wide. It is estimated that it was inhabited by some 10 thousand people. Built in granite stone (walls and walls), wood (doors and beams) and thatched roofs.

Where it is located?

Machu Picchu, which in Spanish means "old mountain", is the most famous Inca citadel in the world. Located 110 kilometers northeast of Cusco, in the province of Urubamba, this architectural jewel is surrounded by temples, platforms and water channels.
