Inka Jungle Trail: the best adventure tour in Cusco

The Inka Jungle tour is a trail that combines adventure sports such as mountain biking, canoeing, zip line and hiking for 4 days until you reach Machupicchu and some of the additional mountains "old Mountain" or "Huaynapicchu". DAY 1: BICYCLE - CANOTAJE (Cusco - Santa María)

The Inka Jungle tour begins with pick up from 6:30 to 7:00 am to go to the village of Ollantaytambo (Sacred Valley) where we will make a brief stop to buy water, snaks, sun block, Or another similar one that they need for this first day of the tour. We will continue the route for approximately two hours passing through the highest point of the route, the pass or "open Malaga" at 4,330 m.s.n.m. Until arriving at our starting point where before conditioning with the safety equipment (helmets, knee pads, vests) we will begin the descent (Down Hill) with the bicycles towards the jungle. During this tour we will be able to appreciate picturesque landscapes and natural attractions according to the altitudinal floors that we cross. We will pass near some ravines, populated ghosts, fruit fields and picturesque streams.

After approximately 2 and a half hours by bike, accompanied by our private transportation (which will accompany us only this first part of the tour), we will arrive at the town of Huamanmarca, approximately at 1:30 pm, after a brief rest, We will continue towards the town of Santa Maria where we will have a delicious lunch at a local restaurant. After this begins a new adventure for participants who have added canoeing to their reservation (+ $ 30 USD). We will be transported to the base of operations (Vilcanota river) where previous technical talk and use of safety equipment (helmets and life jackets) will enter the river on a raft accompanied by the guide and a catamaran that will supervise the adventure. This section has a degree of difficulty between II - III + (medium risk) with exciting rapids and some turbulence but all controlled and supervised by experienced guides (certified in extreme sports) connoisseurs of geography, climate and local environment.

During the rainy season (January-March) due to the river crècida, changes in the degree of difficulty (level IV or more) and for safety of passengers, we do not recommend booking this activity (canoeing).

At the end of the rafting, finishing the afternoon, the whole group will meet in our lodging where we will have a hot dinner and then spend the first night surrounded by colorful vegetation.

DAY 2: INKA TRAIL WALK - THERMAL BATHS (Santa María - Santa Teresa)

The tour during the second day of the tour starts around 6:00 a.m. with a traditional breakfast and then continue with the walk that runs a short section of the original Inca Trail. This part of the tour is not to be missed as we will be able to appreciate an old Inca trail that is well preserved and still used by local people.

At noon we will have a rest in the small village of Kellomayo, where we will have a restful lunch and then continue the route crossing waterfalls, rivers, fruit plantations and typical tuberculosis of the area. We will also be able to witness the diverse flora and fauna of the place, different species of exotic birds, besides a wide range of orchids and fruit of bananas, oranges, avocados, coffee, among others. Remember that we will be in the jungle eyebrow of the Amazon, and this area has one of the richest biologically diverse areas on the planet.

In the afternoon we will arrive at the thermal baths of Cocalmayo where we can enjoy some hours in a resort of thermal waters medicinal. After this relaxing therapy we will be transported to our lodging located in the town of Santa Teresa where we will spend our second night. Tonight is used by most to enjoy a 'pisco sour' in one of the small but cozy Pubs of the village, where we will establish lasting friendship with our group and other travelers.

DAY 3: CANOPY - WALK (Santa Teresa - Aguas Calientes village)

This day will be marked by the history and discoveries that our guide will describe on the way, as we will cross the routes that made the great expeditionaries who discovered Machupicchu and other important archaeological remains. In the morning, those who have booked will be able to do the zip line (+ $ 30 USD), separating from the group temporarily and then meeting at the end of the activity and continue the tour.

After enjoying the scenery and a short break we will descend to a control point called "Hidroeléctrica", where a warm lunch awaits us and then continue the tour with a walk of approximately 3 hours, probably the part of the tour with better views and landscapes , Enjoying splendid waterfalls from the glaciers, coca plantations and fruits of the local inhabitants, continuing through the train route until arriving at Aguas Calientes or also called 'Machupicchu Pueblo' and accommodating us in our hostel previously booked. In the evening we will meet in a tourist restaurant where we will have the option to taste an exquisite dinner and plan with the guide the next day's visit to Machupicchu.

In Aguas Calientes we will spend the last night in a comfortable hostel at the foot of the archaeological complex of Machupicchu.

DAY 4: MACHUPICCHU WALK (Return to Cusco)

Around 4 a.m. we will enlist to ascend to the Inca citadel of Machupicchu through a climb (1500 steps approximately). It is worth mentioning that the guide does not accompany the group this section as it will have to coordinate previous details at the entrance of Machupicchu, also guards the guide of continuous physical wear and tear (repeat service). After entering the archaeological complex (6:00 a.m.) we can appreciate the sunrise, if luck is with us. Once in Machupicchu we will have the tour made by our guide who will share his knowledge with us for two hours approximately and after this the guide leaves the group so that each participant can take their time to go and make the photographic souvenir shots inside the citadel . Travelers who made their advance reservation and managed to buy a ticket for the additional mountains (+ $ 10 USD), either Huaynapicchu (Inca tower) or Old Mountain (panoramic view), will be able to access to the top of the trip from where they can enjoy A spectacular landscape of the archaeological complex of Machu Picchu at its best. This tour could take about an hour and a half but it is worth the effort as the scenery is indescribable.

In the afternoon we will descend to the village of Aguas Calientes to take a final walk through the village, to buy handicrafts and get ready for the return of the train (according to the chosen package) to Ollantaytambo where we will be grouped and take a tourist bus to Cusco, where Tour ends. If you prefer to return early to Cusco you can book the return train with the following schedules and price increase: 14:55 (+ $ 15 USD), 16:22 (+ $ 20 USD), 18:35 (+ $ 10 USD) .
